What to Pack in Your Hospital Bag

Kansas City Newborn Photographer - Your Ultimate Hospital Packing List

What an exciting time! You are finally close enough to baby being here to pack your hospital bag. You have a lot going on preparing for baby’s arrival. Here’s a helpful list to aid your planning.

It’s a good idea to have your bag packed and ready to go by 36 weeks.
For Mom

Clothes: A comfortable robe, slippers, comfy outfits, don’t forget a nursing tank or nursing bras if breastfeeding.
Electronics: Phone, charger with long cord, maybe even an extension cord.
Toiletries: Chapstick, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hair ties, face wipes
Comfort: Pillows, bath towel.
Depends: Hospitals will usually provide mesh underwear and pads. However, many moms prefer to bring their own depends for comfort.
Snacks: I love coconut water and booby bites. Don’t forgot snacks for dad or your support person.

For Baby

Carseat: This one is a no brainer but sometime easily forgotten.
Clothes: 2-3 outfits. Often the hospital will provide you with a side-snap onesie which is my favorite for fresh-48 photos but you may also want a cute first outfit and a going home outfit. Blankets are provided but you may want your own along with a couple burp clothes.
Pictures: Outfit, letter board, props for birth announcement.
PRO TIP: A little olive oil on baby’s bum after birth helps the meconium wipe right off.

For Dad or Support Person

Snacks: Plenty of snack for mom and yourself. Pack a few of her favorite things plus a couple items to give her a quick boost of energy.
Entertainment: You could be in for a while, a deck of cards to play with mom keeps you both entertained while still giving her your attention. Tablet or laptop.
Clothes: Don't forget clothes for yourself.

Administration

Check-in: Photo ID, Insurance card, pediatrician information.
Birth Plan: If you have one you may want to bring a couple printed copies. A relaxing playlist for labor helps create a calm environment.
